A Brief History

Beach Colony has been part of Del Mar's story for more than a century.

Long before multimillion-dollar architectural homes lined the coastline, this area was home to modest beach cottages where families escaped the summer heat from inland San Diego.

As Del Mar grew throughout the twentieth century, Beach Colony gradually transformed into one of California's premier beachfront communities.

Many of the original cottages gave way to custom homes designed to maximize ocean views and indoor-outdoor living.

Yet unlike many luxury neighborhoods, Beach Colony never lost its relaxed beach-town personality.

Today you'll still find charming cottages standing beside contemporary masterpieces.

That blend of history and modern luxury gives Beach Colony much of its unique character.

Where Is Beach Colony?

Beach Colony occupies one of the most desirable locations in Del Mar.

The neighborhood stretches between the Pacific Ocean and Coast Boulevard, extending from the San Dieguito Lagoon and Del Mar Fairgrounds to the south toward Powerhouse Park and Del Mar Village to the north.

Everything feels incredibly close.

Within just a few minutes on foot, residents can reach:

One of my favorite things about Del Mar is that it still feels authentic.

You'll see neighbors catching up over coffee while visitors discover Del Mar for the first time.

A Realtor's Perspective

One thing surprises nearly every buyer I bring to Beach Colony.

The neighborhood doesn't feel flashy.

Yes, the homes are extraordinary.

Yes, values rank among the highest in California.

But luxury here is understated.

People wear flip-flops.

They ride beach cruisers.

Children run barefoot through the sand.

The emphasis isn't on showing off.
